In Bwana (Imanol Uribe, 1996) a taxi driver and his family go for a Sunday at the beach to collect clams. There they find a robust black man, who has just crossed the channel to enter to Spain. Initially they are frightened by his presence, but gradually they sympathize with him. Until there comes a gang of skinheads and they must make the decision to help the immigrant or save themselves. José Nieto (Madrid, 1943) signed a score that is involved in the drama of the film and progresses at the same time it does, conveying diverse feelings as beauty or intolerance. It includes beautiful voices singing a Burundian song that the composer selected and adapted for the occasion and that it is applied in relation to the idealization that the black man has of the environment he has arrived to, while strong percussions are used to highlight the danger of the presence of the skinheads. Enjoy it!
