Aunque ya tiene 8 años de antigüedad, queremos recordar un notable cortometraje no muy conocido. Se trata de El soñador (Oskar Santos, 2004), ambientado en el Siglo XIX y sobre un alienista que acepta hacerse cargo de un extraño caso médico: el de un joven perteneciente a la alta nobleza que, por causas desconocidas, es capaz de dormir hasta tres días seguidos. La música de Fernando Velázquez se sustancia en una bella y elegante partitura en la que el compositor mantiene estable un tono melancólico a lo largo del cortometraje, hasta la resolución final donde la música se expande hacia un emotivo romanticismo, más abierto.

Remembering El Orfanato

In El orfanato (J.A. Bayona, 2007), a woman returns to the orphanage where she grew up, with the intention of opening a home for disabled children. There, her son starts some strange games that not being a mere diversion become a threat. When he disappears, she begins a desperate search that will lead to the absolute limits. Fernando Velázquez (Getxo, 1976) signed a score intense and emotional at the same time, fostering a sense of chaos and unpredictability (for terror) and anxiety and grief (for the dramatic). Very solid in its themary structure, it is singularly remarkable for the use of choirs and for two great central themes: one that corresponds to the area of ​​death and the other to the bonding of the mother. Both progresses through the film to find a connection in the great final sequence, where they are released and united. Enjoy it!
